Social Studies

Last year in Social Studies, we created models of the Pacific Northwest, extended till California and British Columbia, Montana and Alaska. I worked on British Columbia, the biggest one out of Alaska, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Our map turned out to be the biggest because we had finished creating our outline before everyone else and we decided to leave it at those dimensions. We put down a layer of a salty, yellow mixture, so that we could easily paint later, then we created 3-d mountains out of a Papier Mache mixture, and then, finally, we painted the model to show the elevational changes in British Columbia.

This year, we wrote a persuasive essay on what we think was the most important event in American History, or the person who contributed the most in American History. I wrote about Thomas Jefferson, writer of the Declaration of Independence.

Also, we are just starting an ethnographical study of the American Indians. I am researching on the Aleut/Inuit people (also known as Eskimo Indians).
